The corn head manufacturer OROS achieved a new 24 hour World Base Record with a 12 row OROS-SF corn header fitted up to a New Holland CR980 combine.

The basic record was made on 21st, 22nd, October 2005, organized by Linamar Hungary Rt., IKR and CNH. The New Holland CR980 combine was working for a whole day (24 hours) with the new generation OROS-SF corn header, to achieve maximal areal and quantitative performance. The combine was driven by one driver all the 24 hours, which also was a great performance by him, independent from the combine's work. The machine's and driver's job was helped by a well trained and organised quick-reaction service team. The record was controlled, checked and certified by Hungarian Institute of Agricultural Engineering. Machines of the record achievement: The OROS-SF corn head
Our company preconditioned a 12 row OROS-SF header for this exceptional challenge. This construction has not known by Hungarian farmers yet, because the entry to the Hungarian market will be actual in year 2006. But this corn header is known and admitted by North American farmers well. As their acknowledgement they remunerated the header with a FIN (Farm Industry News) great prize. Main features of the OROS-SF corn header family: The SF corn header family is available with 6, 8, 12 rows with fixed or folding frames. Snapping units are placed to each row, protected by safety bolts. These units driven by chains working in oil bath. Perfect stalk chopping is guaranteed by the so called QSA stalk chopper with high speed, long lasting knives, which can be easily disengaged by the operator.
New Holland CR 980
The CR combines have a unique threshing and a complete separation system. It has two rotors, making the threshing and the separation with the performance have never seen before, but in considerate way. The rotor system is the replacement of the thresher drums and straw walkers. Large sieve surfaces (in the CR980 it is 6,5 m2) allows high separating capacity and cleaning performance. Downhill alignment is serial equipment. High power and low fuel cost in the CR980 is guaranteed by the 430 HP IVECO Cursor engine. (The CR980 has the highest efficiency on the World, proved by the German institute: Zentrum für Mechanisierung und Technologie, Feiffer consult aus Sonderhausen. After the official test between long-last working conditions in grain the final result was 72t/h permeability. The institute certificated this result as a world record.) The highest level technical equipments are unable to make anything without human performance. During the record achievement the driver's person was a key role. He was József Szíjj, who is a specialized mechanic for combines and balers. It was not his first big test, he likes great challenges and those situations when he can show his abilities. Before the achievement there was two main conception: Most of the organizers thought the record should be a challenge for the machines, not for the driver, we should not take too big expectations to him. The others (and also the driver's) opinion was: This is a sport event too, machine and man have to prove their efficiency. Our pilot imagined everything about the possible results, trusted himself and his well known combine. That was the reason why he undertook the task to drive the combine alone, all the 24 hours. During the 24 hour there was a co-pilot in hand, but there was no reason to change the driver. But it would be unfair to assign the success to one person. We should not forget about the team from IKR, Linamar companies and FVMMI's specialists, and also the of the fields owners, whose made this unique event possible with their background job. Circumstances of the Record Achievement:
The record was made east from Orosháza, near road 47. A team from Linamar already marked out and prepared the field. The prepared field was measured and certificated by the FVMMI specialists. Four types of corn harvested (Colomba,, AW043, Danella, DKC3511) in two separated field. The average moisture of the corn was 19%, the average yield (with harvested moisture) was 10 t/ha. There was a D-GPS system in the combine, so the yield and the moisture were able to be checked, and an exact yield map could be made. Final results: Harvested amount: 1228,8t Harvested area: 123,7 ha Spent fuel: 1474,0 l Performed basic time (net harvesting time, without turning time): 20,7 hours Productive time (harvesting time with turning time and stops): 22,4 hours Time spent stopped: 1,6 hours
Total work time: 24,0 hours
We wish to thank for every attendance who helped to make this event to be well organized.
